Bill Goodrow Jeff Goodrow
Goodrow Racing began in 1991 when two brothers, Bill
and Jeff, purchased an old late-model stock car. They rebuilt the car for
the 1992 season at Seekonk Speedway and Hudson International Speedway.
Bill drove Saturday nights at Seekonk Speedway and Jeff drove Sunday at
Hudson International. With little experience working with stock cars, the
team managed approximately five races at each speedway.
The Sportsman Division, one of the most exciting divisions in all of Northeast racing, brings together competitors and sponsors from all over the Northeast. Thousands of New Englanders attend these races faithfully each week and the sport garners tremendous exposure from daily and weekend area newspapers, auto racing trade papers and programs, television race coverage on CVI-TV Race Play Back 2-3 times a week, Fox-TV every Friday night, and special radio talk shows.
By 1993, the team was much more familiar with what it was going to take to prepare for each week and to race. There were many top ten and top five finishes by both drivers at both tracks. In 1994, the brothers decided to build a new car themselves "from the ground up" and compete with two cars at Seekonk Speedway. It was an enormous undertaking to maintain and run two cars with only the help of their parents and sister, Amy. Lacking financial sponsorship, the team struggled with what they had throughout the year.
Another car was built for the 1995 season and the brothers each had their own cars. But with the frustration of overwork and lack of sponsors Bill decided to take the second half of the season off and focus on Jeff’s #31 car. Together they formed a soon-to-be competitive team.
Things seemed to turn around for the 1996 season. Jeff had brought on some sponsors for the #31 car and new crew members proved to be invaluable. As the season progressed, the team went through many ups and downs. There were a handful of races almost won, a second, several top-five and many top-ten finishes, and a couple of minor crashes. The 1996 season ended with an 11th overall place in the Seekonk Speedway Late Model Sportsman point standings for the Goodrow brothers.
The team managed to qualify for every race and ran respectfully throughout the year on an extremely limited budget. The team’s greatest accomplishment of the year was forming a solid crew and creating positive recognition. Jeff has kept and gained some exceptional sponsors for the 1997 season. We are currently seeking sponsorship for the #32 car to be driven by Bill. We hope with adequate sponsorship, we can finally take home a few wins and finish in the top ten point standings for the 1997 season. The 1997 season will be the most exciting and competitive season to date, with over 35 cars trying to make the 24-car Sportsman feature event each week.
